Little Pumpkins the kind you is sold at Halloween and Thanksgiving? The
little ones that look kinda flatten? The instructions says to put 6-8 seeds
in a pie size family group. What does that mean?????

Judy,
I think they are referring to how far apart to plant them in a hill. A
hill is a term that is often misunderstood. You don't actually have to mound
the soil up into a hill or mound. A hill is a grouping of seeds....as opposed
to planting in a row. If using the hill method of planting, you might plant 4
or 5 seeds in a group as they mention. The groups would be spaced 10 feet
apart in both directions. The beauty of a hill method of planting a field is
that you can cultivate for weeds using a tractor and cultivator, and
cultivate in both directions. The drawback is that the 5 plants in the hill
are sharing the same root zone and space. Most commercial growers plant in
rows, but not all. If you have drainage problems, an actual raised bed for
the entire plant would be good to keep the pumpkins feet out of standing
water. Not really a hill....more like a plateau!
