Re: How much manure will do?

Rick-
If you are applying the manure at the proper time, either unrotted no
later than the fall before, or fully composted in the spring, any amount
will be safe provided some guidelines are followed. The manure must not
put any of your nutrient ratios out of balance. I have seen this happen,
and it is not a fun thing to deal with although it can be fixed. You must
also be sure that you aren't adding an excess of the very fine particles
in the manure without any of the larger fibrous parts common to compost.
The small particles can damage drainage under certain circumstances, I am
not an expert on this aspect of soils, and this is just an
opservation/recounting of what I remember. If you are applying completely
rotted, loose, fluffy composted manure, that has properly balanced
nutrients, you can never have too much because the plants will actually
grow very well on the compost alone.

just some thoughts, open to other ideas
