Pumpkin Poem for Polly

Poem for Polly

The postman presented her plenty of packages.

She pondered planting the prize-winning pumpkin.

She picked the place in the pasture past the path.

Finally, penny-pinching Polly planted a pumpkin patch.

Her plan required paperwork, paternal pollination,
patience, photosynthesis, and prayer.

She pictured the parade presenting her plump pumpkin
while people proclaimed "Polly the Princess of
Pumpkins."

Plenty of time had passed and one prominent pumpkin
had promise.

Polly proceeded to praise the pumpkin and presented a
pep-talk.

"I proclaim your name to be 'Penelope'. Please make
me proud. Prosper. Prove you're a prime pumpkin
worthy of a prize."

Polly pumped protein into the pumpkin and Penelope
persisted to put on pounds.

She was plump and ponderous.

Polly took Penelope to the park for the Professional
Pumpkin Planters Pound-Off.

Penelope was precisely 1,089 pounds.

The proud pair where presented to the public.

Perhaps Polly is the "Princess of Pumpkins".
