First results from NZ

Tracey Wilson just phoned in from the site in Kawerau on the volcanic
plateau. They have just had their first ever pumpkin weigh-off.

The heaviest was 127 Kilo - 279.4 pound and they had had 67 entries. One
estimated at over 200 Kg from Whakatane broke on the way over and was
reduced to mush.

The five local Mayors all had a mayoral pumpkin in the race and
Kawerau's Mayor won. The local pie shop made 'Humble Pies' for the
losers to eat in front of the local press.

Tracey was really pumped up when she phoned. It was the biggest crowd to
see anything in Kawerau and exceeded their expectations dramatically. In
fact they were quite overwhelmed by the fuss it all created.

They are allready talking of bigger pumpkins next year and how to
organise it all better

Of course the overall winner was pumpkindom.

I had a call from our provincial newspapers to say they were sending
down their two best photographers tomorrow so we are hopeful of a big
feature in the Daily News Monday.

One sleep to go !
