Good Morning! Since so many of you were so nice about
sharing such great seeds, I thought you might like to know
how we're doing with them. All of you who gave us seeds
gave us at least 2 of each, so we're starting the seeds in
groups 1 week apart for 4 weeks. We are only doing 1
seed from each set, and didnt do something from every
set, so if you dont see your seed here it means we just
didnt start it this time. We have a very large
area (about 1 acre total) to put these pumpkins, so we're
going to have lots of plants, and we are keeping track of
what seeds are most vigorous right from the start. I know
you all like to compare how your seeds do.
We started by soaking all these seeds, each in separate
containers at room temperature on Saturday, 4/3 for 4 hours.
PLANTED 1ST LEAF
Freeman 655 4/8 4/10
(this is our most vigorous seed so far....germinated in
2 days, and had a leaf trying to peek out before we even
got it in the ground)
Freeman 809 No growth....I think this was our
fault...when we filed the edges the whole seed fell apart.
I felt really bad, because this is the 98 WI recordholder.
Kennedy 625 4/7 4/10
Kennedy 616 4/10 slow to sprout, but the
root grew an inch in 24 hours,
so its really moving now.
Barlow 550 4/7 Nothing yet
Reynolds 300 4/7 Nothing yet
Reynolds 650 4/7 4/10
Welty 728 No germination
Kennedy 625 No germination
We have these seeds in a makeshift greenhouse in a south
window, and will put them out on the deck in a very sheltered
location next week, so they are hardened off for planting in
3 weeks.
Thanks so much to all you generous people for your seeds.
We'll keep you informed as they progress!
Mark & Kathy
