Black Crows at Night

Black Crows at Night
by Pumpkin Flower

Turn over the soil and plant the seed
Add some worms and a little feed
Erect a cold frame to keep off the chill
Then hold your breath and watch the hill
For signs of growth from precious seed
You hope will put you in the lead
Overhead the little birds they sing
They also love the warmth of spring

But then at night a thought did grow
Of the seedling snatched by a big black crow
Me chasing after , yelling loud
It soars behind a great gray cloud
The seedling dangling from it's beak
Me shouting 'til my voice is weak
Then thankfully I wake to see
'Twas just a dream to frighten me

At dawn I'm back out at the hill
With chicken wire and good will
To all the birds that might fly by
Go choose another's seed to try
