Seed starting

I have had my best luck starting seeds in wet paper towels rather than in
dirt. I sand the seed edges, put them in a moist paper towel and then put
the moist towel and seeds in a zip lock plastic bag. The problem is "Where
to put the bag to keep a constant warm temperature?" I have tried several
ways with varying degrees of success. This year I even considered buying a
temperature controlled propagation mat but the nearly $100 cost seemed too
dear.

Then today, while inspecting some water lily seeds I am starting in plastic
zip lock bags I float in 85 degree water in a 10 gallon fish tank, a minor
bell went off. Why not float the zip locked bag of pumpkin seeds in the same
tank?

The tank cost about $10, the heater about the same, so for $20 I have an
inexpensive, temperature controlled seed starting device. To test how well
this idea works I now have two seeds floating in a bag the tank.
