Pumpkin vs Squash genetics

From: Harold Eddleman, Indiana Biolab
As a first timer, I am not trying to grow a record Pumpkin. My main
interest is working out the genetics of skin color and squash vs
pumpkin.
A squash pie tastes much different than pumpkin pie--partly because
cooks may use different spices to flavor them. That is about all I know.
I want to start a webpage (pk421.htm) on the differences between AG
Pumpkins and squash. Partly, to aid beginners, but primarily to guide my
test matings to determine the genes involved. I need your observations.
I have grown many kinds of squash, but I have never seen a giant
squash (Nic Welty is sending me seed of a good tasting giant squash).
Some color genes are already known in Cucurbita pepo and C. maxima. I
suspect only 1/2 or 1/3 of the genes are known based on gene lists of
other crops.
If you have seeds, observations, or ideas which might be useful in
testcrosses or writing my pages on squash vs pumpkin or colors, shape,
ribs, etc in Atlantic Giant please e-mail me at
i*@disknet.com?subject=pk421_AG_Squash_vs_Pumpkin
I welcome all your info. I know very little and also may overlook
points. I also want the URLs of webpages related to genetics in pumpkins
and squash that I do not already have on pk.htm.
