Help! We get our new house next week. I arranged to go early and
get soil to test; the results came back yesterday. Overall it loooks
pretty good, but pH is 6.0 (gulp.) I need advice on two fronts.

First. Somebody, please, share with me any facts, tricks, rumors, or
harebrained ideas - tried and true or otherwise - to help change the
pH as quickly as possible. We are moving into the house AT planting
time! Short of a complete soil transplant, what can I do. Clearly,
I add close to 100 lbs. of lime per 1,000 square feet, and I know it
takes some time to work. Is there anything I can do to enhance
(i.e., speed up) the lime?? I'm planning to add ZooDoo, calcium
nitrate, Friskies, alfalfa pellets, molasses. George! Got any ideas
about how those will affect pH??

Second, given that raising the pH will probably take some time,
tricks notwithstanding, what should I plant? Without getting into
all the details, I've got some **HOT** seeds. I've also got lots of
other very respectable seeds. Should I plant one of the **HOTS**, or
 hold it for next year??

Thanks in advance, everybody - like Bill Van says, this list is
 terrific.

You need to get to the Farm Supply and see what they have for the finest
pulverized Lime. This may be found in the powder contained in Palletized
Lime. There is a limit to the amount of lime you can add at once, check on
that amount. Work the Lime in ASAP and separate from your other additives.
Not sure if there is any liquid you could mix up to help, you should ask
them. The additives your adding help release nutrients to the plants so that
may help. What form did you find the molasses in? As far as your seeds go
that's a tough one, save some. Your soil will peak in 3-5 years with work.

Not sure if that's much help, good luck.

George
