How to prune vines?

I have an AG plant with 5 long vines now in excess of 17 feet in length. I have narrowed my keeper pumpkins to 2 on the same vine. Nothing else really looks promising at all. My question is should I prune back the remaining vines or let them continue to run? If I should prune, how much should I cut it back and what is the best way to go about doing it?
