Main Vine ?

List,
        Had a vine borer infected main vine, and it shut down the growth of the only pumpkin on the main.  Have 2 still growing on a secondary main. Question is should i cut the main back to where the borer entered or is the leaves and root system still a value to the secondary main. also the main istill growing.
Any comments would help.
