Re: how to prune

Mark,

Bob is right with the leaves near the stump.

As for the other vines. is one the main vine ?
if it is- then i'd let it grow. but i know grows who
cut them. so it is really up to you.
the rest i assume are secondaries ...?
I would cut them right after the last leaf that is the
size of your hand or bigger.
just use a sharp knife to make the cut. no sence in
cutting off leaves that are already full sized and
contibuting to the plant. and It would take energy
from the plant to grow the smaller leaves on the ends
of the vines. bury the vines out to the end to get
those roots going.

I now have my final pumpkin set and it is at 41"
circumference and growing like mad! I have a lot of
leaves dieing off close to the stem. Is that normal?
The vines are still growing fast and the pumpkin also.
I have 5 vines besides the one my pumpkin is on and am
curious if I should let them continue or prune them
off. They are all 16 to 20 feet long. If I should cut
them, how far from the stem should I cut and is there
a correct way and wrong way to do it?? Please help!

Thanks,
Mark Fowler
