Howard Dill's Weight Method?
I have been trying to estimate the weight of my pumpkin but am quite confused with Howard Dills method. My pumpkin is 52" around, 36" from stem to blossom end (measured to ground), and 37.5" parallel to stem (measured to ground). When I add these up and use Dills method I come up with 188lbs. I know there is no way the pumpkin weighs that much!
When using the Stelphug (spelling?) method it weighs 20lbs. The problem with this is that it has gained less than a pound since it was 41" around last week.
What am I doing wrong with these calculations? Also, my pumpkin is growing at an average of 2" per day over the last 6 days. 40" last Thursday and 52" today. Is this a normal growth rate for this period?
Thanks,
Mark Fowler
