More Tragedy in the Patch
More tragedy in the patch today as I found my 783 Baird with a blossom
end split. Not sure why this split occurred. I had not fertilized with
the fish/seaweed for a week -- average growth was an estimated 7.5
pounds a day without any spurts over the last four days -- a second
pumpkin on the plant weighs over 200 pounds and was kept to help ward
off splits. We received a rain of about .7 of an inch on Tuesday and
had over an inch on Saturday. The 783 Heyne had an OTT of 279.5.
Earlier in the month I lost my 693 Heyne with a blossom end split and I
estimated that it would be in the 700 to 800 pound range. Both pumpkins
had an inner blossom end. Do not know if I caused these splits or not.
Anyone have any ideas?
