Ok, I agree that the tent analogy wasn't the best and
the pumpkin shell adds quite a bit of insulating
value. If you measured the air temperature inside the
cavity and saw only 10 degrees change over a day, that
would indeed reduce the Doucet effect due to
temperature swings somewhat. I was assuming a
considerably larger temperature swing of the internal
air for a large force to be exerted.
Was the temperature probe you used insulated from the
shell wall? The temperature of the shell wall being
cooler could have affected the reading somewhat.
The increase in pressure differential due to growth of
the cavity exceeding the rate of air permeation into
the cavity is still on the table.
