northern MN update

Been quite a year in Northern Minnesota for pumpkins. May/June cool and
cloudy, and July and August outstanding. My 563 plant was on a roll this
year. It threw out 2 fruit that were well above last years 837.
Unfortunatly, in past week I lost both. One to deer(which no longer
exists)and yesterday my whopper got a nice split in the stem which will void
it for weigh-off this fall. The biggest was 130" cir. on day 30, so it
definatly had some potential. Fortunatly my 850 Hester has 2 on it also,
with one 10" less, but 3 days younger, and another also ahead of last years
837. Assuming that bugs, hail,to much rain, not enough rain,to hot, to
cold, varmits, diseaes, and just plain bad luck don't hit, I think we'll have
something to take to weigh-offs this fall. Happy Growing. Pumpkinpiper
