Re: Bye Bye Baby

Sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my biggest at the
time to a blossom end split on July 19 (228 OTT, 256
pounds est., 28 days old when I cut it from the vine)
I knew it was a fatal split but I dusted with Capton
powder and sealed it with silicon rubber glue -
thinking... well maybe it would last.

This morning, I found the split had grown and was
again open. I felt the pumpkin's bottom and it was
HOT! Really hot. Good thing the seal opened up or she
would have blown her guts all over Northern
California.

She was rotton to the core, of course. Rotting from
the inside out.

The day after she split, I pollinated a female 24 feet
out on the main vine. The plant now covers over 1,000
square feet; is forty feet from bow to stern, and is
healthy and happy. I have three other pumpkins also
growing hoping to throttle down the growth rate some
this time. However, the pumpkin on the main vine is
now growing faster than the first one and hit 59"
circumferance in 18 days. I'm just hoping this one
doesn't blow up too.

As long as your plant is healthy - it's still more
than 60 days to Halloween - never give up.
