Ed , sorry to hear about your loss. I to lost mine 2 weeks ago with 4 days
with a heat index in excess of 120 degrees. Do you have others still going
or was that it. I only had 1 plant , so next years planning starts
now......Paul
Hi Paul
Sorry to hear about your loss. It is heartbreaking after all of the work you
put into them. This is my third time I have lost one over 500 pounds. I know
the feeling well.
My 934 is still chugging along. I am down to two pumpkins on it now. The
secondary main pumpkin is about 315 pounds and will never grow to be a
contender. But the main vine pumpkin is now about 480 pounds. I am going to
enter this one in the upcoming Marshfield Fair on August 19. It is growing
about 9 pounds a day at this time. I am hoping for about 550 to 570 pounds by
that time. I'll let you know how I made out.
I have a Calai 869.5 plant with a pumpkin about 320 pounds. Slow moving. I
don't think it will ever amount to much. At the beginning of the season, I
thought that this would be my best plant.
I have one more that I have already nursed through two crisis. Not even sure
if I have healed the second of the two. Incredibly, I have two vine borer
holes into the pumpkin itself. I think that I have it under control. Fingers
crossed. This is my largest pumpkin. I think I might become suicidal if this
one goes down. Just kidding, but it does wear on you.
Thanks for the condolences. Good luck next year.
Ed
