is this the third time?
Hello list
First I would like to say than one of the Houser 2001 116 (172 OTT) second
generation plant is at 7 leaf and starting to drop to the ground and run! It
seems to be a very happy plant even thou we have had weather in the 100's
almost every day. For those of you who don't know these plants are seedlings
from plants I grew this year already and they finished growing. (planted
too soon) so I seeded them and planted them. They are the Hester 403 self
pollinated and there are two plants about 2 weeks old. Today I planted three
second generation Cramer 842/Mettler 865 seedlings. This is a cross I made
this year, and these were small seeds only 2 days to germination 4 days to 1
leaf stage. They are 6 days old and one has 3 leafs I hope they keep this
pace. My wife and I joined in growing her plants and we have two pumpkins
set on the Mitchell 801 uow. These pumpkins have doubled in size every day.
My friend has a plant from the seeds from the Mitchell 801 I gave him and he
has 2 pumpkins over 400 on the same vine (very ugly pumpkins but big) So for
all of you nice people out I haven't given up just started over, and as for
being late, the guy who owns the big pumpkin patch in our area that all the
schools go to well he just planted and he will be ready for Halloween.
Second? has anyone ever given thought to where in the pumpkin the more
productive seeds come from? I mean lets say 20 growers get seeds from the
world record and 5 of them have a really great year but 2 of those are first
time growers and very inexperienced but still grow 800 pounder. and I know
this happens, the seed must have something to do with it so could there be a
pattern of say blossom end seed grow better offspring than middle or stem
seeds. I just seeded my last Rockwell 771.6 (166 lbs) uow and split the
seeds in to three drying trays and I have one more Cramer 824 to seed and a
300 lbs Mettler 865 self pollinated also I am going to do the same with them
and start 3 plants from and see if there is a trend of fast growth from one
of these seed groups. Has any ever done a study on this
