Re: Calai rip from vine "only solution"

Well I had a very good friend of mine come over today and we both agreed
that something had to done to relieve the vine stress on that Calai 846 and
my Calai 798 .........same thing, stem pulled off the vine.

The vine leading up to the Calai from the main root is strong and has many
secondaries. The trailing vine, going away from the pumpkin is extremely
tight and stuck under the pumpkin rib or under the pumpkin (remember this
pumkin took off like a rocket). So I cut the trailing main vine which
relieved the stress. Then I taped the torn stem to the main vine (vine
from main root), also a small secondary was pulled back to relieve the
stress. At least the pumpkin will still grow and not totally tear itself
loose.

On my 798 Calai, the stem tore from the vine......much worse. Again I had
to cut the trailing main vine and hope the remaining vine will hold onto
the stem. I will put supports under each of them.

Those Calai's are gorgeous pumpkins. They grow round and high "big fat
asses" and they require alot of vine relief.

Always learning!!
