Green with envy

I'm so green I could be a squash. So it's my first year, still I thought
I could almost accidentally grow a hundred pounder, having been avidly
reading these posts for 11 months, having read the two Langevin books
and the Rado guide, and having grown wonderfully healthy pie pumpkins in
the past. Six or seven wonderful experienced growers have sent me seeds,
even more than that have sent me personal replies to my queries.
Here you've all counting your growth in inches OTT for six weeks or
more, while I have ONE nice pumpkin, just larger than a basketball, and
while - unlike my two earlier fruits - has not yet shown signs of rot,
it grows no more than half an inch a day. Gosh, it's gorgeous, but is it
retarded? WHAT am I doing wrong?
