Re: sunflowers

Hi...I use sunflowers as a wind break for my pumpkins...  need to know how to
store them. ....and most important...when do you know that the heads are done growing?

Glenn, I had NO luck with the pumpkins this year but I really have the sunflowers!  As a child we always covered the heads with nylon netting or pantyhose and left them on the vine to dry.  We usually did this after all of the pedals had fallen off... just before the birds discovered them!  Then later in the fall we would bring them inside and hang them up.  I've never had a problem with mold or insects.  Check out this site for some recipes and more ideas:  http://www.sunflowernsa.com/pubinfo/faq/index.asp  Jetta
