I also only apply any sort of chemical application(pesticide, fungicide, foliar fertilizer)
after the sun has set. For the exact same reasons listed by people on the list wiser than myself. Also, if that temperature was the highest your plants had ever experienced, then they would wilt just from that. My husband ( the licensed
agricultural pesticide advisor/ applicator) often applies these materials after dark. I have received the direst warnings about applying things during sunlight hours. I listen.
Hope this helps, and that you are not out of the game. The other thing I would comment on, is that you mentioned you sprayed some of the veggies you would plan on eating. Please make sure you know how long you have to wait after application before you harvest the goodies.
