Kath, last year was my rookie season, rookie mistakes, underwatering, PM,
etc, but finally got a fruit to set early-mid August which got frosted in
the first couple days of October; fruit was 49 days old & cut from the vine
& stored til Halloween. It had over 300 seeds that were mature, and doing a
germination test, 4 of 5 germinated, so there's still hope for you for
fruits or viable seed. As for diseases, check these helpful sites below:

Especially check the other links on the last site (Cornell.)
Hope this helps.

vine? new buds etc.....?
It's 42 days today. I think the fruit is still alive, as are all the
vines on the north side of it, green and healthy looking. The fruit
sounds sound when I slap it lovingly. Yes, I think it has new flowers
too.
I took a sample of its leaves today to the master gardeners; missed them
but left the evidence with a note. Will let you know. I had thought it
to be the virus carried by the diabolical diabrotica, aka cucumber
beetle, but Mr Ray Barenchi visited my patch Saturday and says it looks
like a disease. A retired exterminator, he says he has never seen that
much damage done by the virus.
I'll post again when I find out something.
Kathie
