I took a sample of its leaves today to the master gardeners; missed them

to be the virus carried by the diabolical diabrotica, aka cucumber
beetle, but Mr Ray Barenchi visited my patch Saturday and says it looks
like a disease. A retired exterminator, he says he has never seen that
much damage done by the virus.
I'll post again when I find out something.

Hi Kathie!
Did the damage start at the oldest leaves then start going out the vine?
I can tell you if it did I am almost sure it is from deseased plants from gardens gone by. The cucumber beatles come from the soil and they are happy to give it to next years garden. Something I do in Michigan is till up the garden then broadcast diazonone before I put down 10 foot wide black plastic. As the pumpkin grows I cut open plastic and bury the vines. Once the pumpkin gets out side the plastic, I till the ground and side dress the new vines with Diazonone (lightly). It helps reduce the damage from last years little bugs.
Good Luck
Bill
