Hi Barbra. As I understand it, even if the bees did bring you some strange foreign pollen, it would not show up until the next generation. I gather from what I have been told that the pollination THIS season does two things: 1) causes the baby pumpkin to grow, and 2) affects the genetics of the seeds from this pumpkin. So that if, for instance, your pumpkin got pollinated with zucchini pollen this year, your pumpkin this year would look pretty normal. But if you saved the seeds from this pumpkin, next year you might have an elongated and/or greenish squmpkin. Or so I understand. Maybe someone who has been at this longer can correct me if I'm wrong.

Most of my young pumpkins are a light green, with the exception of those three. I thought it kind of strange to have three odd coloured pumpkins. I allowed the bees to do the pollinating, that is why I thought it might be due to cross pollinating with ???????. Who knows were those bees have been :-p Barbara --------------------------------------------------------------------- Pumpkin-growing FAQ: http://www.hort.net/lists/pumpkins/search.cgi To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE PUMPKINS
