Since I
was off topic for the last post….I have Corkum 616, Hester 895.5 and Hebb 990
plants growing, is there any particular genetic cross anyone would like to
see? My two big ones are open
pollinated, so I figured I would try some side-vine fruit with the genetic
crosses. I have kind of
given up on the huge fruit since all my pollinations came late. So far, I
have only had females open on the Hester, pollinated all thee with the Corkum. I am only looking for one to survive
for the seeds. I have a few
females a couple days out on the Corkum plant. I am hoping for a female on the Hebb plant, but it is the
only one of four early plants to survive the late frosts at the alternate patch
and it is only a main vine (no sides) about 25’ long. I have only seen one female and it didn’t set. There seem to be plenty of male flowers
though. Please
respond privately. (We should do
this more often [and earlier] to get input from others on our genetic crosses. Especially some of us less seasoned
growers who have good genetics in our patches.) I’ll have
an Orange one for the Indiana State Fair… everything but orange for the rest of
the season. -Gus |
