Re: Splitsville

Thanks for the concern List.

Mike, I started some of my 544 seeds and had a few people grow them. Alas they are all newbies and did not do so well. Cold spring, hot summer and early frost have done some of them in. But I do have a few people hooked. I plan on growing one next year. By the way Mike, expect a form soon.

Gus, I am not sure if strapping would work. The crack was almost completely around the pumpkin and it was sagging quite early. Although I thought the pumpkin was just flat looking. Maybe a big veggie-form would work. :-)

Tim, your pumpkin sounds just like mine. The one on the secondary vine that I still have growing is a much taller rounder pumpkin that its late brother that was on the primary. Mine was an aggressive plant right from start though the pumpkin did take a while to get going. Once it got about 50 inches of circumference, it just took off. Of course, temperatures were warm. The main vine was much, much smaller after the pumpkin and I only had 6 feet of main vine after the pumpkin. It was a nice, thick, yellow pumpkin that was just starting to turn some orange. My 8 inch butcher knife just barely went through it and did not stand a chance at the front.

Stan, hang in there. I must have finally figured out how to grow these. Now I just have to back it down a notch.
