Chad:

Bleach can easily kill young plant cells if the concentration is high enough. A 1:10 ratio of bleach to water will kill fungi and bacteria without usually hurting the pumpkin tissue.

Wow. They really upped the prize money this year.  Still hoping to have one
to bring this year!  I have one that is trying but it developed about 30
small brown spots on its skin.  The spots are about 1/4 inch or so and the
center usually sinks and turns tan.  Seems to be solid still but it was the
only early germination here in Ohio (July 4th).  ITs a 1064.5 Needham X 960
Rose.  Any experience and help would be greatly appreciated.

 It had a couple splits in its stem and I sprayed it with bleach and water.
It likely was a stronger than needed mix.  Its possible bleach mix was
splashed into the pumpkin.

I have been covering it with a stiff fungo flo mix.  The rain has been ahead
of me recently.
