The Pacific Giant Vegetable Growers invite you to join them for their 2nd
Annual Patch Tour and picnic. We will be touring five patches. At each patch
the grower will address a specific topic regarding how to grow giant pumpkins
and squash.
The tour will begin at 9 AM in Vacouver, WA at the Paul and Steve Handy's
patch, the topic is splits, rot, bugs and disease - how to avoid disaster in
the patch. The next stop is Ben Bortner's patch where the the topic will be
watering and fertilizing. Then we will head down to Canby where we will visit
3 patches. The first stop will be Jim and Lori Sherwood's patch where the
topic will be seed selection, fruit selection and management (how to get it to
the weighoff in one piece). The next stop will be Neal Leland's patch and the
topic will be pruning. The last patch will be Brett Hester's where we will be
covering Patch Layout and improving soil quality. Then after we have finished
visiting the patches we will head to Hoffmans Dairy Garden for a potluck
picnic.
As part of the festivities we will be having a Poker Run. Each participant
will get a card at each of the five patches, and the one with the best poker
hand at the end will win a fabulous prize including some hot seeds.
If your last name begins with letters A-M, bring a salad or side dish of your
