Subject: Splitsville on New State Record
Based on an OTT of 343.5, the pumpkin on my Checkon-986 weighs
an estimated 830 lbs (more if the new Marcellus equation is used).
This would beat the NJ state record of 816.5 set back in 1990.
Unfortunately, it has developed two blosson-end splits, one of
which goes all the way into the cavity. I have it covered with
a fungicide paste.
Just to re-confirm, even if this pumpkin miraculously made it to
a weigh-off before rotting, it would not qualify for an official
record because it is not a "sound" fruit - correct?
Regardless, my personal previous best was 353 lbs, so I am
extremely pleased to have had the success I did this year. Thanks
to Larry Checkon and Marv Hicks for the seed, Don Langevin's books
2 and 3, and the knowledge I have gained from everyone on this list.
