Is this rare or not?

This evening I found a new pumpkin on the 1385 Daletas. Kinda a surprise,
since I terminated new growth on it on August 1.
But she sits perched atop the stump right where it lays down. You know,
where you get all kinds of new growth ... but while I expected stalks and
leaves there, a female blossom in all her fulness? Is this unusual, or does
it happen all the time?
