Is it common practice to cut off the main vine after the pumpkin to

I can. I have already been raising the main vine at the pumpkins with
styrofoam blocks.

Hi Dave
Did you bend the main vine away from the pumpkin when it set? I always curve
the vine away from the pumpkin when I set one. Then it will lift up easier
as it grows.
If you didn't it is not too late. You can start lifting the pumpkin back
toward the vine by blocking it up. This might help. Also cut any secondary vine
by the stem. I never cut the main vine after the pumpkin.
Just my thoughts
Good luck.
Bill
