I've got a nice pumpkin going in my patch, but it's only putting on between 17-20 pounds per day at day 32. The weather is nice and warm during the day (27-32 Celcius), but gets quite cool at night (7-10 Celcius) I'm covering the pumpkin in the late afternoon to retain it's heat as much as I can with some blankets and I've also got a tarp structure overtop of that to keep it dry. I'm just afraid to leave the blankets on all day as I'm afraid it may get moist and rot.
I've been noticing that under the tarp, the pumpkin is still very cool in the middle of the day under the shade. Would it be beneficial to take the tarp off and just leave sheets or blankets directly on the pumpkin so it would warm up more from the sun? Would this heat help it to grow faster?
Thanks,
Alan
