First, are you growing Atlantic Giants? AG's all start yellow...the color of a summer squash) except for true AG squash, which start and stay green. Not sure what would be causing a 'small yellow dot', but it could be any number of diseases, or it could be that the pumpkins are not getting pollinated properly and self-aborting...

every little pumpkin that starts to come out soon gets a small yellow dot on
it then soon turns all yellow then dies. what causes that?
