Thanks Vince, couldn't have put it better.
I usually only put a shovel full of soil just where the leafstalk meets the
vine. I add lighter soil to the ones on the main and keep and don't do much
on covering the main leaving it open. I don't water in a three foot radius
around the stump and had mounded to keep the stump high and dry. I either
puff 3336 powder on the tips with an used ketchup bottle or spray 1/5
bleach/water or alcohol or H2O2 etc. If you know the disease in your soil
you can find the sensitivity and the fungidie powder that connects to
stopping the disease. I love to water by hand with a hose/wand in a flat
spray pattern and direct the wand AT WILL to the necessary areas needed
under the canopy of leaves and foliar spray with hose from mix in the
barrels or with a dial hose-end sprayer. I have also used soaker hoses if I
am real busy or tired but get bored with them and water by hand in which I
can inspect leaves pumpkin etc. Inspecting for pests or bad fungi make sure
to prevent disease, and keep the plant healthy, the pumpkin happy thriving.
By the Way....Don't forget the Mychorizza under/against each root-node when
burying roots. I believe I just summed up the secrets of growing a real
giant. Oh, I forgot at least 8 hrs. of full sun, good proven seed or a cross
the has a lot of potential genetically for hope.
Picture the plant healthy and the fruit growing and get a connection with it
and yourself...........Don WV

I always let the main vine continue to grow until it reaches
the end of the patch which is about 30 feet. Many growers will
terminate it at some point. I think this is probably pretty
safe to do at about day 50 or so at which time all vines should
be terminated. I have seen significant pumpkin growth to day
100. I like to have some newer leaves on the plant to help
support that late growth.

My main concern now is the Primary Vine. I removed all female
blossoms, as opposed to the blossom and fruit from the
primary vine.
That was how I culled. Every time I removed the blossom that
was at
the end, a new one would grow. This put on three more feet
because it
happened three times. I was trying to divert all energy to
the fruit
but as I culled, each time one more foot of new vegetative
growth
appeared with a new female at the end. What do I do with the
terminal
end of the primary vine because once again, a new female is
emerging.
