Re: Little drops of goo

Jim,

I think you are talking about "crackle".?Mainly this comes out of the fruit as it tries to grow and is normal. It can occur all over.? You will get more of it if the skin has been exposed to the sun more and thus is not tender for the expansion...but this shouldn't cause too much problems...if you start getting bigger cracks...I normally paint in daconil and that seems to stop any rotting.

Hope this helps.

Subject: Little drops of goo

Hmm. Yet another dilema.

I have been noticing little drops of goo on the outter skin of our pumpkin,
closest to the stem. They look like little droplets of water, but they are
not water. A scientific taste test revealed it to be bitter, with almost a
little bit of acid type taste/feel to it. It seems to be seeping out of the
skin, in a circle around the stem maybe a foot or 2 in diameter. Not a big
quantity of them- maybe 40 - 50 drops total. Is this a natural occurrence on
a big pumpkin or something to be concerned about? I'm wondering that at the
rate this baby is growing, if it's just getting so dang much moisture
through the stem per day if the top part of the pumpkin is just naturally
juicy until it gets absorbed and is this the natural by-product near the
juice delivering stem? This theory helps me sleep at night, opposed to
something much worse. Anyone know the cause?

Thanks again.
