RE: Vines touching the pumpkin and pumpkin lotions. Jergen's anyone?

The flesh of young pumpkins is soft & easily damaged by the rough leaves.
Even a small scratch on the flesh now will be a large blemish later.

Lotion??? Not that I'm aware.

Subject: Vines touching the pumpkin and pumpkin lotions. Jergen's anyone?

Is there any particular reason that we do not want vines or leaves touching
the skin of the pumpkin? Also - is there any good "lotion" that can be
applied to the pumpkin to keep the skin from drying out? This is my first
year at this and even after reading a few books on the topic, I still find
plenty of questions.

I've got a fairly good shade over the pumpkin now. It gained 14 pounds in
the last day. Pictures can be seen at "http://blog.acker1.com

Thanks,
