Dan--The seed was a 793.5 '03 Bhaskaran, one of whose parents was a 1250
Daletas. And no(hanging my head here), I did not do a soil test last year.
John Young has already mildly chastised me for this. My first giant last year
also was hollow, but only on the bottom 3rd of the fruit. Hopefully I can
solve the problem before winter so I can amend the soil as needed. Thanks for
the email. Steve

Steve,
SO Sorry to hear about your pumpkin.. You were so excited about it at the
BBQ on Sunday.. Nature sure works in mysterious ways. What was the seed? Did
you complete a soil test before planting?
Dan

Dissected my 500-pounder this morning--it was totally hollow inside!!! The
skin went from 6 inches thick on the top to 1/8th inch thick at the bottom.
What the heck would cause this? My biggie last year also collapsed, but
only
the very bottom was hollow. I thought the cause was too much potassium and
not enough shade, but I now believe I've been off on the wrong track. Lack
of
calcium, fertilization with self/sibling from same parent, or what? Steve
