Steve,
I am glad that your brother's pumpkin stem seemingly has dried up and water
laced nutrients are feeding the pumpkin. My pumpkin's split is very severe,
close to 1" wide at the top and 3/4" bottom. The split kept going to the
point where I could see into the cavity of the fruit. When I first noticed
the split I coated everything with Daconil, then when I read about the
Borax, I poured it straight into the stem till it filled up. Not sure what
is going on with the pumpkin inside. I did notice that where I had placed
a bamboo stick holding the tarp next to the pumpkin that the pumpkin has
grown over the last couple of days and is now touching the stake. So it is
a waiting game. But this morning it rained over 2" and I was trying to put
the brakes on the beast by not watering as much as I had been. I guess it
will be a waiting game. Thanks for asking and I will let you know how it
turns out.
