Yes, good luck. I will be lucky if this one gets to 500lbs. The other one is maybe 50lbs....late
bloomer and still split the vine. Darn!Next year I will try something different to get enough slack. The S-shape approach doesn't
seem good enough or I am doing something wrong with not enough "S" depth.I am thinking of elevating the vine as it grows starting at about 6' to 8' out. The idea is to have the baby pumpkin pollinated up in the air about 3' to 4' and let it hang down. Then it can grow right side up instead of on it's side as is usually the case. I might need to build a dirt ramp to support the vine and allow burying the side vines. It seems a LOT
of slack is needed to prevent stress buildup on the stem to vine connection. Dave Mankes wrote:
I did the same here Dave. Half of the vine is still attached, so here is to good luck! I didn't get quite enough slack in the vine it seems. The pumpkins tore off about half of the vine with them leaving at least something to feed the growing monster. So I cut loose the tight parts to loosen the vine in the direction of the main trunk. Well, at least it didn't come completely off the main and they are still growing. Dave
