I do Debbie. The MONSTERS OF THE MIDWAY WEIGH OFF at Bengston's Farm in
Homer Glen, IL will be held Sunday Oct. 3rd. George Janowiak, myself, and
all other Illinois Giant Pumpkin Growers Association members are running this
GPC event along with those who are willing to lend a hand that day. Things
like measuring pumpkins, helping to number them in order, judging for
cavity breaching splits or holes, keeping the little things in line that pop up
all day and such. Or just come and sit back and enjoy. We should have
plenty of people to help, but more help is always welcome for those wanting to
get into the mix and get involved. I would encourage that because it will
get us all a chance to get to know each other better for the newbies. We
will have the muscle for the lifting and moving crew so no one has to break a
sweat unless they want to. There will also be plenty to do that day at the
farm besides just watching the weigh off...especially if you have kids.
Here is Bengston's site on line. I grew up in Homer Glen and now live in
Joliet. Dave and Dan Bengston are great guys and they run nothing but a top
notch show. Our effort and there effort will kick off this innagural weigh off
into a good time for all for many years to come. Those wishing to just
watch the weigh off and/or enter their pumpkins to be weighed will not be
charged full entry fee to the farm. To see all these cool attractions listed in
the site below, an entry fee will be charged by the Bengston's.

For those who want to come in from out of town to compete or just watch the
show, we are going to work with one of the local Joliet casino's to get
some possible discount rates on rooms and have them ensure us of guarded
parking areas for pumpkin security while you take in some gambling, dining, and
entertainment.
Prize structure will 5000 for first and something along this lines.
1.5000
2.3000
3.1500
4. 800
5. 400
6. 300
7. 200
8. 100
9. 75
10. 50
Prettiest pumpkin and ugliest pumpkin win 100 bucks each too to be voted by
the growers.
We encourage everyone from the area to bring a pumpkin they have grown and
weigh it to feel the excitement of the pumpkin hitting the scale and the
anticipation of the results. From the smallest to the biggest...they are all
our pride and joys. It has been a tough year on many, but we encourage you
to bring something to the scale no matter what and share your stories. It
is a great way to participate, have fun, learn, and get more involved too.
Anyone with questions can call me on my cell at 815 483 5552 as the event
draws closer. We will post more info on Bigpumpkins.com with directions,
entering times, unloading, etc.
For out of staters, we are hoping the prize structure will encourage those
from all around the Midwest and beyond to help make this event as fun as
possible. We are hoping to draw growers from Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana,
Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and beyond. It would be great having a
Midwest Event that unites many of the best growers from the Midwest and beyond.
That is the reason the event is being held on a open Sunday so more growers
can attend. The more the merrier is our take and hope to see a great
turnout for what should be a blast.
Hope to see you there Debbie along with all the other growers out there.
Come help us kick off this innagural event in a big, big way.
