Sounds like spotted cucumber beetles. They seem to be more prevalent later
in the season than their stripped cousins. Sevin is best way I know to
control them. Spray under the leaves too because they like to hide there.
The biggest danger they pose at this stage is the transmission of disease
,mosaic virus, bacterial wilt etc. Also look around your garden, I have
noticed that spotted cuc. beetles are drawn to some kinds of weeds, but I
not sure why.
P.S. Be careful not to spray open blossoms becuse this may also kill the
honey bees.
