John,
that is common just leave it heal itself it is ok, the stuff that
comes out is like a scab it won't hurt it to leave it there. if it
goes deeper then i might put some captan on it.

One of my pumpkins has recently developed a few small skin cracks.
They are only skin deep and very narrow. They are only on the stem
end.(stem itself is ok). Blossom end has none. They are starting to ooze a
sticky clumpy substance that just builds up. I have heard many of you talk
about using captan paste, would this be a situation to use it on? Also
should I wipe off the substance before I apply?
Thanks,
John
