Dejected in SD

Is anyone familiar with the phenomenon of the development of a
transversely oriented, softly indented groove developing 3/4 way toward
the blossom end of a pumpkin? This appeared out of the blue in my
largest prospect (OVT Stellpfug estimate 348 lbs.) about a week ago --
tonight right along that groove a small split has formed about 3/4" long
and 1/8" wide but SADLY all the way into the seed cavity.
I THOUGHT this was my pumpkin to break the SD state record (402 lbs) and
I am SO disappointed. I don't know if my backup pumpkin (OVT Stellpfug
estimate 331 lbs.) -- the one standing on its head -- will be able to do
it.
