Art,
I haven't grown a pumpkin tipped up in its stem before. How about if you
dig a little soil from under the stem and vine as to leave room for it as
the pumpkins gains weight. The stem and vine would be able to push into
the ground leaving it intact. I would think if you kept the area dry
there would be little fungus growth. Possibly pre-treat the area with
daconil or other fungicide. Pumpkinstein grew one like this last year but
I didn't hear how it turned out. Possibly you could call him for some
more info or possibly someone on the list can help .
