We all should be at the stage of applying fertilizer (if required) to
our soil. At this stage of the game, we all have fruit which requires
a certain formula. What I have found out is ....there is really no
special formula which all the growers consistently use.
IN reading Topfeilds latest newsletter, if I understood Waynes ratio, he
states "most growers go to higher potash and nitrogen with a lowering of
the phosphorus. Some growers might use a number like 15-10-30 which
is a high potash formula. If you have a 16-12-28 or a 15-8-25, it is
close enough."
I went ahead and mixed mine as he states, combining 20-20-20 and 13-0-35
per the ratio of mixture per gallon.
In reviewing The pumpkin book, they recommend a balanced formula of
10-10-10 or 20-20 -20 intermixing a kelp base fertilizer.
So I give the LaRue's a call and all they use is Miracle Grow . Just
their standard formula. They applied it only twice, but they have
excellent soil, which has been worked for many of years.
So what do I do? Who should I follow? What I applied last was the
mixture of 20-20-20 and 13-0-45 with Alaska Fish and a little Epson
salt.
All I have now is a 70" pumpkin. I will cull a few more today on that
vine.
