watering, etc.

I, too, water at night sometimes as I generally don't have time in the A.M.
I don't water the leaves though, just the ground. When I water in the day,
I water the whole thing. The pumpkins seem to grow more at night. It has
been so hot and dry here that I am trying to water twice a day as it drys
out completely in one day. So far, it seems to be working. I checked on
that pumpkin flower that I pollinated last week that had 12 lobes...biggest
flower I have ever seen. Well, there is now a nearly basketball sized
pumpkin on but it is sort of wide hipped, almost like a pumpkin and a half.
Seems to be growing rapidly. I am going to take a chance and cut off the
other pumpkin on the vine that is older but smaller and normal shape. I
think this big one is going to really grow fast! The biggest one in the
backyard is now medicine ball sized...going to measure it tonight. It is
doing well. Haven't shaded yet as it is under good leaf cover but will need
to do that this weekend. I have now added superphosphate and magnesium to
the miracle gro formula once a week and that seems to be working well. So
far, so good. Haven't noticed any bugs, etc. yet. I was sorry to hear
about Scar as that sounded like a really promising pumpkin! I am enjoying
all your posts and learning a lot about growing these things from all of
you! Thanks from a first time pumpkin virgin!
