Bad news from the Hat. There has been no growth since Sunday. There
was a small one inch crack on the top which opened up on Saturday the
8th. It did not spread and I was able to treat it with fungicide and
seal it up. There are no other cracks, splits or soft spots anywhere
on the pumpkin or the vine that I can find. I can only assume at this
point that the interior may have been contaminated when the crack opened
and the rot is working on the inside. The circumference is 129 inches
and total OTT measurement is 284 inches. Estimated weight by
circumference is 479 pounds, 460 pounds by the OTT method. This was my
only big one on the plant. There are a few small soccer to beach ball
sized pumpkins on some secondaries that I'll keep going to have some
nice jack-o-lanterns to give to friends for Halloween. The Alberta
record will have to wait for another year..........
