Thanx Steve-I checked the Archives and found a suggestion/technique
recommended by Pumpkinguy where you inject your regular insecticide int the
areas infected.I found around 10 VBorers in the leaf stems-most where the stem
starts just off the leaf-but a couple where the stem meets the vine.(they seem
to like the tendril juncture also). After finding a suitable syringe(not an
easy task for an upright citizen like myself) I proceeded to seek revenge.IT
WORKED GREAT! I opened up a leaf stem the next day and found a dead borer at
the bottom of the "tube" in a pool of tainted water-a little protein for my
punkie.
My spray schedule was every 6-7 days w/methoxychlor yet my Baby Boos gotz'm
and my Birdhouse gourd gotz'm too.I'm now fighting(losing) a major stem/vine
split and fungus-very high dewpoint w/leaves too close+crowded.I'm w/in a few
miles of the ocean so theres no lack of morning due ! I'm waiting for the
patch to explode in one giant tangled mess of mildewed vines, angry borers ,and
underachieving pumpkins.
(did I mention my sap-sucking leafhoppers yet?)(how 'bout the aphids?).Still
having a ball though!215 pounds ,gaining 10 or so a night with 48? days to
go!-Glenn
